Is it important to floss everyday?

Yes, getting between your teeth to clean is  an important part of taking care of your teeth and gums and may help prevent cavities and gum disease. The American Dental Association recommends cleaning between your teeth once a day. Cleaning between your teeth helps remove plaque. Plaque contains bacteria that feeds on leftover food or sugar in your mouth and can cause cavities and gum disease.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something I should be worried about?

Yes. If your gums bleed when you brush or floss, it could be a sign of gum disease- periodontal disease or gingivitis. Left untreated, gum disease can cause serious problems such as bone loss and tooth loss. It has also been linked to health conditions such as stroke, diabetes, heart disease. If your gums begin to bleed, it is important to see a dentist for a periodontal screening as soon as possible. A periodontal screening  will help determine the level of disease that may be present.

What is a root canal?

The term "root canal" typically is short for “root canal treatment”.  A root canal is the procedure used to save the tooth if the soft tissue deep inside of it("tooth pulp") becomes inflamed or infected. If the tooth pulp is inflamed or infected the tissue needs to be removed to save the tooth and stop the infection from spreading.

What is a dental crown and when is it needed?

A dental crown is a "cap" that is cemented into place over a tooth to restore its shape and size and/or to improve its appearance. Dental crowns are used to protect a week tooth, fix a broken tooth, cover a worn down tooth, hold a dental bridge in place and cover a dental implant.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are artificial roots that crowns, bridges, or a full denture set can be attached.  Dental implants are a natural-looking replacement that looks and acts just like your original tooth. Implants are ideal for replacing either a single, multiple, or an entire set of teeth. By using dental implants,  your mouth is restored to a condition that is close to the original condition of your mouth.
